Vacancies: Accountant & Curator

The National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN) is the leading institution for celebrating, collecting, preserving, exhibiting and researching visual art and craft as a component of our national identity, cultural heritage and human connectedness.

Competent and innovative candidates are invited to apply for the following vacancies:

 

  1. ACCOUNTANT

 

Key performance areas:

To ensure that accurate and proper accounting records are kept and maintained in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and organizational procedures, in compliance with the NAGN Act, Act 14 of 2000, and other relevant Acts.

Educational and experiential requirements:

An NQA level 7 qualification or equivalent in Accounting. Additionally, three to five years accounting experience and a proven aptitude with MS Word, Excel and Pastel accounting program are required.

 

Position to be filled from 02 October 2017 or as soon as possible thereafter.

  1. CURATOR

 

Key performance areas:

 

  • To participate in and contribute to the objectives of the curatorial department within its mandate of managing and preserving the exhibitions and collections under the NAGN’s auspices.
  • To plan and compile an annual exhibition schedule in collaboration with the head of department.
  • To monitor the exhibition schedule in consultation with the head of department.
  • Manage applications for exhibitions at the NAGN; and to manage institutional exchange exhibitions, both on national and international level, in consultation with the head of department.

 

Educational and experiential requirements: NQA level 7 qualification or equivalent, preferably majoring in the field of Visual Arts and/or Visual Culture (Art History), plus relevant experience as an Art Gallery/Art Museum Curator. An advanced command of spoken and written English is required. A working knowledge of an indigenous language and a valid driver’s license will be an added advantage.
