September artwork of the month!

Arwork By Paul Kiddo, ChristusKirche, Acrylic on Canvas, 2014

Paul Kiddo was awarded a Judge’s Special Mention and Merit Award in the 2-Dimensional Category in the 2014 Bank Windhoek Triennial for this artwork. Paul Kiddo was born in 1949 in Bethaniěn, southern Namibia and now lives and works in Windhoek. Kiddo is an established Namibian artist, and has become well-known for his realist paintings which often depict scenes of people in their daily environments, landscapes, historic buildings and a variety of other content. Kiddo has exhibited extensively both locally and internationally. His work is present in many public collections in Namibia and Germany, and he has won numerous awards for his work in the arts.

The realist and figurative nature of Kiddo’s work, as in this painting, lends itself to creating a kind of document of scenes in Namibian society, thereby offering a commentary of the space depicted, which in turn is mediated by the paint and voice used by the artist.

The Bank Windhoek Triennial returns in 2017 with the 4th edition of the Bank Windhoek Triennial at the National Art Gallery of Namibia (NAGN). This nationwide visual arts exhibition and competition opens at the NAGN on 1 September 2017 and runs until 28 October 2017.
